Deconstructing the Meaning of Jihad
In this video, renowned author and Islamic scholar Dr. Javed Jamil explains the true meaning of Jihad, a concept that has been repeatedly misrepresented in public discourse.
At its core, Jihad refers to the struggle against injustice and evil — whether internal (self-discipline and moral restraint) or external (oppression, exploitation, and social wrongs). Dr. Jamil places this explanation in the context of the recent controversy around Maulana Mahmood Madani’s use of the term “Jihad”, arguing that resisting injustice is a moral responsibility shared by all.
He also highlights an often-ignored reality: every major religion includes the idea of righteous struggle or war — from the Crusades in Christianity to Dharmyudh in Hindu traditions. Yet, only Jihad is routinely singled out, politicised, and demonised.
This video calls for intellectual honesty, interfaith understanding, and a deeper engagement with religious concepts beyond media stereotypes.
